I can't beleive you don't recognize this.....Jo, Carl or anonymous [who isn't Carl]. If you don't recognize it then I know your kids won't. Maybe Terry, Marcie or Jimmy might know. Anyone, anyone? If someone doesn't get it soon I'll give you one hint only.
OK, here's your hint, keep in mind that I never expected to have to give a hint since I figured someone would have gotten it by now, so here's the only thing I could come up with:
Melanie sang about it in the 70s '..."I got a brand new pair of ________, You got a brand new _____. I think that we should get together and try them out you see. I been looking around awhile You got something for me. Oh! I got a brand new pair of ______, You got a brand new ______. ....don't drive no car. Don't go too fast, but I go pretty far. For somebody who don't drive I been all around the world. Some people say I've done alright for a girl..."
[the song was banned by some stations because it was deemed to suggestive.
Jeepers Creapers, good googaley woogaly, holy moly people!
Come on, its a roller skate key for gosh sakes. I had one as a kid and I never had a pair of skates. I can't beleive that none of the women didn't get this. What little girl in the 60's, or 70's didn't have or want a pair of skates. Even in the 50's, right Jo.
My bad, I thought my settings were correct on comment moderation but had forgot to enter an email address for the comments to be sent to so some comments sat in libo. Jo's prize is in the mail, a link for an Arby's coupon.
Yes Jo got it right. It was a 'key' used to adjust the skates and tighten the fittings. It was used to attach roller skates to shoes.
It had a 6 sided 'hex' type opening at one end, a smaller square opening at the other with a slot type opening between the two. One end was used for adjusting and the other for tightening the wheels, I believe. The slot was for running a string through to carry the key around your neck.
The skater placed his or her shoe on the metal platform, tightened a leather strap around the ankle, and used the skate key to tighten clamps that grasped the soles of the shoes at the toe. The skate key also incorporated a wrench, or wrenches, that were used to adjust the skate to the user's size and make other adjustments. Some skates came attached to a boot but most kids had the cheaper skates that attached directly to thier own shoes.
